I am a very good planner. I have always been great at figuring out what I want and then making a plan to achieve it. Sometimes my plans go according to my wishes and other times I have to adapt them to unforeseen roadblocks. I am a woman who has always loved dreaming of a life of adventure but lately I have been thinking a lot about the idea of dreams versus goals.
I believe that dreams are the bedrock of our imagination- you can’t begin to craft the life you want without first envisioning it in your mind. Daydreaming about new places to visit, jobs to apply for, or that perfect house keep your spirit active and can help the mundanity of daily life to be a little easier to take. Dreaming is good. Period. But where I see a lot of people becoming stuck is in thinking that simply dreaming something will make it come true. I hate to be a negative Nancy, but very rarely do dreams come true without a lot of hard work and planning. Action begets results- it really is as simple as that. That’s where my new mantra comes into play (and yes, I did use a hashtag): #goals, not dreams. This mantra encompasses three steps:
1. Zero in on a dream
2. Make a plan
3. Make everyday into a step towards your goal
A girl’s gotta dream, right? So use these steps to figure out your dream and to make it into a reality. Trust me, you won’t regret it. I have a big goal for 2016 that I have been working towards for almost two years already and it is what keeps me focused and excited about life. I need plans and goals because they give my dreams structure. I want to make this one life I have to live into the fullest that I can and so I start young. On this Christmas Eve I challenge all of my readers to follow my mantra- #goals, not dreams- and to make everyday into a step towards achieving your greatest wishes.
Happy Holidays to Everyone.
